Tumbling Mats

When you hear about tumbling mats, the first image that comes to mind is gymnastics. While these are heavily used during competitions and practice for gymnasts, there are other activities the mats can be used for. Tumbling mats come in different sizes and thicknesses, and the thicker ones can be used for any sort of dangerous stunts practiced in a few sports. For an activity that would benefit from support on your feet, back or support if you fall, using a tumbling mat is a good idea.

Use tumbling mats for cheerleading stunts. Lightweight tumbling mats are good for dancing on, and standard mats are good for performing stunts on, especially if these include throwing a cheerleader in the air or making a pyramid. Falling on a mat is much safer during practices. The smallest sized mat, which is usually 4 feet by 6 feet, should be fine for stunts.

Use for high-end tumbling that skilled gymnasts do. For older gymnasts, you’ll want a large tumbling mat–the largest is 8 feet by 12 feet, but these are around $500. The gymnast will need enough room to perform her stunts, depending on what those are. For more dangerous stunts, consider getting a foam-core mat with more padding than the standard mat.

Buy a tumbling mat for smaller kids to play and tumble on. Younger kids love to somersault and tumble around, and this can be great exercise for elementary school kids. For toddlers, a tumbling mat is safe for them to play and crawl on without getting hurt. Find a mat that’s padded enough to be soft for the older kids, especially if gymnastic moves like handstands are being performed

Use for exercise. A standard tumbling mat is lightweight and can be put down for stretching, weight work while lying down or used in light aerobicsto protect your feet and ankles. The mat is firm yet soft, so it will give your feet and back enough support and prevent you from hurting yourself.

Use for martial arts practice. Whether you have a martial arts class or want to practice at home, a tumbling mat will give you good support and footing when practicing martial arts barefoot. A standard mat will do fine for most martial artists, but if you’re planning on performing more skilled and dangerous stunts, a mat with foam core in the center will protect you better. youtube TUMBLING MATS
